Is This Common During C-Section Surgery?
My Wife had our first born last week. Our little one didnt want to come out so they had to perform an emergency c section. They took her into a room then had me change into some scrubs then directed me to the operating room. When i came in my wife was strapped on the table completely naked and a male doctor was scrubbing her stomach & vaginal area with some kinda brown soap. To make things worse i counted at least 3 other males doctors in the room jus walking around doing who knows what, while my wife is laying there half concious and naked throughtout the entire surgery. When they drapped her they only covered her thighs and stomach, then they put up the blue sheet to block us out which ended at the top of her stomach. Is this commom procedure? I thought at least they would have covered her breast because they were exposed the WHOLE TIME and thats what concerns me mostly
I’m really not sure why they would do that, unless they wanted to put your baby directly on top of her once he or she was born. Some drs believe a baby should have skin on skin contact with the mother for bonding reasons. I had a natural birth, so I am not sure they do that with c sections. Maybe they didn’t want anything in the way incase something went wrong. But either way, birth can be a messy process. Enjoy your new baby:)
You say emergency c section. They might not have had time to cover her, With mine they did do there best to keep me covered. As for the other men being in there, these people have seen hundreds of naked pregnant body’s, once you see that many, it doesn’t really phase you. You should have asked them (in her behalf) to cover her. I think Dr.’s forget about modesty sometimes. And as for the scrubbing of her stomach and vagina, yes that is normal for them to clean the area with an Iodine Solution to protect her and the baby from bacteria. What got me, when I was trying to deliver, they had me there spread Eagle and in walked some Dr. and 7 students, nobody asked me if that was okay. That was unacceptable!
